Pattern Review: Ogden Cami by True Bias
The Ogden Cami by True Bias is one of those sewing patterns that has cult indie pattern status, super hackable and even with it’s own month! I had been sewing few months before I realised just how frequently this pattern was appearing in my instagram feed. With summer approaching, I needed to try it.
The pattern looked simple, a strappy camisole top that everyone seemed to make in no time at all. I expected it to be easy, and I think it is if you conform to slim normals, but what I have found is that if you have curves, fitting can be tricky.
As soon as I mentioned I was having trouble getting it to fit me well, I discovered I wasn’t alone and the common theme was boobs! Even though I had the curvy pattern made for a bigger bust, and with darts added I was still strugggling. It took me 4 attempts in total to get it right but I am so glad I stuck with it as it’s a great top, and now I have a version that fits me well I am getting stuck into all the hacks!
The main problem I had with fit was getting the width of the top across the bust to fit. It sat well across my bust but had way too much in the armsyc and waist so this needed some adjustments.
Finally I landed on the size 14 on the curvy pattern, took an 1.5cm from the armsyc and graded at the waist by 2cm. I also added 2.5cm (1″) to the length of the cami as I don’t like my tops to be too short.
I’m really happy with the results and glad I persevered with it. It’s a great wardrobe basic and some of the hacks you can make with this are awesome. True Bias has a heap of content on their website about the hacks they have tried and instagram is awash with Ogden hacks.
All in all, this pattern wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be, but these challenges are all part of getting better at sewing clothes.
Pattern & INSTRUCTIONS
The pattern itself, fit challenges aside is really well produced and the instructions are very well written. It’s supported with easy to follow diagrams so no step is tricky and everything you need to do is clear.
This pattern is also supported with a heap of additional content on the True Bias website so even if you do get stuck there’s a lot of places to get help.
Sewing Process
Fit issues aside, this is a nice and simple sewing project. It comprises of the main from and back bodice pieces and lining for each of those, and the straps.
My biggest recommendation with this pattern is to make a muslin/toile as it was only the fit that was tricky for me. I’m really glad I didn’t sew right into the good stuff.

Thanks for sharing this! I kept seeing this RECOMMENDED for beginners but when I have it a try I didn’t find it very beginner friendly, but I’m realizing that In large part that was because of the poor fit. (Note to self: try not to confuse the two!) It helps a lot to hear about how you changed the pattern to improve the FIT. I’ll have to give this another try. Thank you!

Oh I completely agree.. it is a straight forward sew, but so many have a problem with fit on this pattern. If you want something similar that really is beginner friendly I totally recommend the Megan Nielsen Eucalypt tank. Good luck! Don’t give up..!
